Grown up

Recently a good friend of mine became a mommy for the first time, she had beautiful twin girls.   Last Sunday we attended the blessings of these babies, and as we pulled into the church parking lot I noticed that my friend Melissa and her husband had purchased a new car, an SUV to accommodate their growing family. When I complimented her new ride she said "now I'm a grown up", she also said that it wasn't the babies that made her feel like an adult, but the purchase of the family car.   This conversation reminded me of the day I realized that I had become an adult, and like her, it wasn't the day I had my first child or bought my first house. It was the day I bought a wonderful little kitchen machine called the Magic Bullet Blender ( http://www.buythebullet.com/ ). I'd been seeing the infomercial and coveting it for quite a while so I was ecstatic when I finally made the purchase. I was more excited about this than I would've been about a new outfit

Cinderella

I love that classic Disney movie, maybe because I feel like Cinderella, but instead of having a wicked step mother and sisters, I have kids. Kids who spend their days bossing me around and making me clean up after them. I'm always amused by the "work song" from the movie, perhaps it's because it's so relatable. So in the words of the singing mice:                                    Cinderelly, Cinderelly                                 Night and day it's Cinderelly                               Make the fire, fix the breakfast                             Wash the dishes, do the moppin'                             And the sweepin' and the dustin'                               They always keep her hoppin'                                  She go around in circles                                   Till she very, very dizzy                                        Still they holler                                  Keep a-busy, Cinderelly

SIX!

I may have mentioned this before, but when I married Russ I said that we needed to have boys so the world could be graced with more good men like him. I am confident that Taevin will fulfill that need. He was a good baby, he is a good kid, I anticipate that he will be a good teenager, and eventually a great man.   My sweet Taevin turned six yesterday... SIX! Where has the time gone? Wasn't it just last week when we were going 30 mph on the freeway on our way home from the hospital with our new little bundle of joy? Yet I can't remember what life was like without him, funny how that works.   We had a great party with a magician ( http://www.utahmagic.com/ ) and tons of presents, food and friends, and seeing how happy he was made all of the planning and every penny we spent worth it.   All three of my children are so precious and wonderful in different ways, but Taevin is the one who has so patiently allowed himself to be the "guinea pig" as I learn how to be

Back to the grind

Christmas is over and it's back to life as usual. Part of me is happy to be back in our routine but the other part misses the excitement of the season.   Anyhow, Christmas was lovely, I made a turkey and a Christmas tree out of homemade chocolate balls and the best part of course, was watching the anticipation of our excited kids on Christmas morning.  It's funny how we don't usually remember the presents we got, but rather the feelings we had and the looks on our kids faces, and I suppose that's how it should be.   As for now, nothing new to report other than a nasty flu that has been working it's way through our family over the last few weeks. We're hoping that we'll all be alive and well for Taevin's birthday next weekend!
