Back to school

School is back in full swing and I had some mixed feelings about it. I loved summer! I loved not having to wake up early (that was my favorite part), getting to play outside all day, the warm weather, and just having that leisurely unscheduled time with the kids. But I love the structure that the school year provides, the time to get the things done that I can't do while they're around, and the opportunity for them to be taught by someone other than myself.
Taevin is now in 2nd grade and from what I'm told, has one of the best teachers in the whole school, Mrs. Arnold. He likes her a lot and has made friends quickly, he is reading like a champ and says his favorite part of school is recess (go figure).
Ryler is back to preschool for his second year with Mrs. Leanne and loves it! Lucky for us, preschool is just a short walk down the street, he goes on Mondays and Wednesdays from noon until 2:30, which happens to be around Zoey's nap time, so if I'm lucky I might actually get some quiet time of my own!
Here are some of Taevin's back to school pics, I did take some of Ryler but this morning my phone took a swim in the washing machine before I had a chance to download his pics onto the computer... total bummer! Anyway, he sure looked cute with his little super hero backpack!

Well, we finally did it! We had a baby, and she is absolutely beautiful!   As per the usual with this entire journey, nothing went according to plan, but Mac and Katy are now holding their beautiful little girl which, makes it all worthwhile.     At 46 years old, the pregnancy was difficult. I suppose I should’ve expected it to be that way but I just assumed I had the same resiliency I did 12 years ago, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. My body has been through a lot during this process, and I definitely felt it through the entire pregnancy, but the baby was healthy and thriving and that’s what mattered the most.     On June 27th I started having weekly appointments. Everything looked great that day, but by the time I went back on July 2nd things had taken an interesting turn. I had been having contractions for a few weeks, but over the last couple of days they had increased in intensity and frequency, still I didn’t think too much of it, but ...

It's finally over!

Anyone who knows me well knows that I hate Halloween. I think it's a ridiculous waste of a holiday, a time when childhood obesity, diabetes, cavities, and greed is encouraged. And not to mention the freaks out there who use that day to perform satanic rituals and torture cats. But aside all that, nothing good has ever happened to me on Halloween, usually it's just the opposite and this year was no exception.   Friday was the ward Trunk or Treat. We had been gone all day and Russ felt bad about having left Annie home all alone so he suggested bring her along. I agreed as long as we tied her up, since she does like to run. We kept her tied to the trunk latch and everything went fine until we were getting ready to leave. We unhooked her leash and put her in the car but when the kids got in, a back door was left open. Just as Russ went to shut it, our stupid dog jumped out, took off across the parking lot and attacked our neighbors dog. Russ took off af...

Surprise!

Sometimes life throws you a curve ball, and it usually happens just when you think you've got things figured out.    Way back when I was praying about having a third child, the number 4 kept coming to me. I laughed and told God that He would need to send twins to get Russ to agree to that number, so part of me was a little apprehensive going into our first ultrasound with Z, but alas there was only one of her so I kind of forgot about the number and moved forward... until that day when the number came back.  Zoey wasn't even a year yet and the feeling came, there was one more. Russ did not feel the same but I used every bit of convincing power within myself, and after many arguments and discussions, he buckled. He gave me 3 months to get pregnant, if it didn't happen he would get his vasectomy. I gladly took what he was willing to give and trusted that God would send this baby that He had promised within the conditions Russ had reluctantly agr...
